INGREDIENTS:
- 1 envelope active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/8 cup honey or granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon melted butter for bowl
- 1 tsp of salt
- 3-4 cups all-purpose flour
HOW TO:
- Sprinkle yeast over warm water in a bowl. Add honey, butter (1/2 tablespoon) and salt; whisk until yeast is dissolved.
- Let stand until foamy( about 5 minutes).
- Add flour while mixing.
- In bowl, knead dough; knead until smooth, elastic, and slightly sticky, about 5 minutes.
- Let rise in a large buttered bowl, covered with plastic wrap in a warm, draft-free spot for about 45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F while waiting.
- Butter one 4 ½ by 8 ½ inch loaf pan (optional).
- Punch down the dough; transfer to a lightly floured surface. Shape piece into a loaf; tuck sides underneath to form a seam down the middle (optional). Place loaf, seam side up, in buttered pan or on a baking sheet. Let rise in pan/sheet for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Brush top of loaf with butter.
- Bake until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped on bottom (briefly turn out loaf to test), 35 to 45 minutes. Let cool slightly; unmold. Let cool until just warm before slicing.
