Hamburger Gravy

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 lb hamburger
  • ½ Onion diced
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • White pepper
  • Salt

HOW TO:

  • Brown hamburger in pan; do not drain fat.
  • Remove hamburger and put to the side.
  • In a small pot warm milk over stove.
  • Cook onions until they are clear’ish then remove.
  • Add 2 Tbs vegetable oil; add flour and mix with oil over medium heat. This makes Roux: flower mixed with fat or oil. First it will be white, it will turn blond and then it will turn tan. When roux becomes the tan color add milk and whisk.
  • Stir until the roux and milk is bubbly. Add white pepper and salt to taste. Add meat and onions.
  • If you have better than bouillon you can add one spoon full to the gravy to add flavor, or if you have cubes add one cube.
  • Don’t worry if your mix is not thickening right away. It may take a few minutes before it is ready.
